Appetite Satisfied: Avicii at Vanguard La – House for Hunger Charity Event

Avicii at Vanguard presented by SBE & Insomniac Events…

“Rising Swedish DJ, remixer, and producer Avicii and manager and executive producer Ash Pournouri of At Night Management have announced official dates for their one million dollar House For Hunger January 2012 Tour where $1 million of gig fees will be contributed to Feeding America.” –

We arrived at about 11 PM to the venue and found parking on the estate’s lot immediately. The red carpet was out, photos already being taken, and the anticipation (demonstrated by the forming line) was sign for what the night was to become.

Enter the recently renovated Vanguard La…

It’s been at least a few years since we’ve touched down at the Vanguard in Los Angeles, California. In fact, last time we were there was for an Insomniac Events’ show with David Guetta. The layout is pretty much the same as we once remembered (picture below), however the decor has received a nice face-lift with table seating in lavish spots next and behind the DJ. From a dancer’s point of view (you know, those of us that like to get down), the dance space still remains incredibly large facing the DJ.

We first caught Sultan & Ned Shepard setting up the evening right for Avicii with some really cool remixes and edits of Janet Jackson’s, “We Go Deep” and various other artists’ tracks. Sultan & Ned Shepard are known for delivering a high energy, crowd-engaging set, that gets people in the mood for a headlining act or their main stage performance at festivals such as Global Gathering and Creamfields.

“In addition to their stellar productions, they’ve gained international praise for their live sets, hitting major venues and festivals across the globe. After launching Harem Nights at the world renowned Stereo Nightclub in Montreal, Sultan + Ned Shepard toured extensively across the world, rocking dance floors at festivals such as Dance Valley (Amsterdam), Global Gathering (Kiev & St. Petersburg), Creamfields (Peru) and Sunburn (India) as well as the world’s leading nightclubs like Ministry of Sound (UK), Green Valley (Brazil), Pacha (Argentina, Egypt, Germany) and the ultimate venue, Privilege (Ibiza). With dates supporting David Guetta on his tour across Canada, an unforgettable live performance featuring Nadia Ali at LIV nightclub in Miami and an action packed, tent-rocking experience at Ultra Music Festival, their shows have proven to be truly epic events.” –

Avicii at Vanguard LA

It was roughly 1 AM when Avicii came on, and the crowd, a 21 year old plus, Hollywood and happy type, became ecstatic. It reminded us of circa 1999/2000 when a big name DJ would take the stage minutes before set time and everybody would whisper, “Oh there he is!”, except this time it was, “There’s Avicii!”. Tim Berg, better known to his fans as Avicii did not disappoint the expectation either as the crowd filled all the available dance space on the floor. Opening up with what were said to be his new collaborations from, “the lab”, reminded us of some of the older James Bond tunes from movies like, “Diamonds are Forever”, “Octopussy” and even a reminiscent of, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”. Check out the opening of his set where Avicii set the mood for the night…

The night and Avicii kept it’s rhythm all the way ’til 4 am (and maybe even later, since we checked out early) to satisfy the appetite of Electronic Dance Music fans and raise money for a good cause. Even celebrity Tara Reid was in attendance rocking out with the crowd and jumping on stage with Sultan & Ned Shepard!

And, we’ll end with this…

“The energy in our music is what engenders feelings of positivity and exuberance in the hundreds of thousands of fans who come to our shows. It’s the music that makes you feel great. We are doing this for the love of the music.” – Ash Pournouri on

Be sure to thank Avicii, SBE & Insomniac Events for putting together a well-planned and charitable event!
